As parents, God has blessed us with the gift or our child or children. Along with this precious gift comes the responsibility of teaching our children that Jesus is their Savior. Knowing this, our children can live a God-pleasing life on this earth and finally know eternal life in heaven. After all, the only thing that we can really bring with us into heaven is our children and the ones we love.
Olivet Beacon of Light Lutheran Church is here to assist you in educating your child. A very important part of that process is our Confirmation Ministry. Our Confirmation teachers and guides hope to encourage your child to use the gifts that God has given them so that they may grow in their service to the Lord and become the person that God created them to be.
Last year we made some exciting changes in our Middle School ministry and our Confirmation Ministry. You will note that we are now calling our middle school ministry “Catalyst.”
What is Catalyst?
Catalyst is Olivet’s Youth Ministry for students in grades 6-8 which serves as a catalyst for them to develop and deepen a personal relationship with Christ. Catalyst incorporates relevant teaching, worship, prayer, service and interactive small groups. Catalyst is designed to equip students with the spiritual foundation necessary to become true disciples of Jesus Christ who impact God’s Kingdom.
What is Confirmation?
The Confirmation component of Catalyst and the Confirmation Service offer students an opportunity to affirm that they are on a personal journey of faith with Christ. Confirmation is not the “end” of one’s faith journey, nor is it equivalent to salvation.
Participation in Confirmation is an optional part of Catalyst. Students are invited to fully participate in Catalyst or Olivet’s High School Ministry whether they plan to be confirmed or not.
When do students confirm their faith?
Students can participate in the Confirmation Service between 8th and 12th grade if they confess that they are on a journey of faith with Christ and complete the Confirmation requirements. Most students participate in the Confirmation Service as 8th graders.
The Confirmation Services will be held on May 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Requests for specific service times cannot be honored.
What are the requirements for Confirmation students?
Students who plan to be confirmed will also be required to:
Can students invite friends?
Students are encouraged to invite friends, but should get permission from their adult leaders in advance, especially if it is a community service night, because these nights may require the adults to transport the students to an off-site location.
Service opportunities:
A core value of Catalyst is to serve others with the love and power of Jesus Christ. Students involved in Catalyst will participate in community service nights several times during the year. Students may also have an opportunity to serve in Student Leadership roles such as greeting, reading, ushering or helping to serve snacks. For those who want to serve for an extended period of time, summer mission trips are a great option.

Our weekend will include hiking, games, hanging out with new friends, and lots of fun activities. Register by October 10: $60; After October 10: $65
